For the people that don't know Blackburn, it's a hidden gem. Located in the City with all the amenities nearby but it feels like the country. The Blackburn community is great for raising a family. Blackburn elementary is in an excellent central location with room for a high school for the area in the future. There is a large park next to the school. Adjacent to the school is a beautiful large community hall along with the recently restored R J Blackburn heritage house which acts as a meeting room, crafts and a daycare. Also in the park, there is a new skateboard park, an outdoor sand volleyball court, baseball diamonds, tennis court and skating rink. Within sight of the park, there is an enjoyable par 3 golf course.
It is only a 5-minute drive into town whichever of the two directions you can go to get there, however, Blackburn residents have many convenience stores close by which sell gas, take out food, alcohol and groceries. There is a brand new Husky gas/car wash/surplus store within walking distance. In development in the nearby Boundary Road Logistics Park is a commercial strip mall. This commercial area has massive potential for big-box development like we haven't seen (perhaps someone should realize that this area needs a Cabelas). The Bonnet Hill eatery is a fairly new restaurant in the community providing delicious family meals.
The big sky and the sunrises/sunsets are stunning. Going to work in the morning you have the sun at your back and driving home after work the sun is at your back. According to people that live in the area, the air is so much cleaner and crime is much lower than in the core of the city, they also claim that they get much less snow than the Hart. What I love when I drive to Blackburn is that I can get there either by Highway 97 South or Highway 16 East. Both highways are now connected via Boundary Road. The potential for this area is huge, developers know it and I predict that you will start to see more investment in this great area.
Country in the City, this neighbourhood is an up and comer for family living!
